About Us

We're eager to start working together, but feel free to get to know us better by reading a little below.

Our Origin

It all began with a simple question: are the services currently offered to people with disabilities fully meeting their needs? The answer was a resounding "NO!" In an effort to close these gaps, our founder started meeting with parents of teens in the local special education departments. Together, they began dreaming about what a better tomorrow would look like. From these dreams, Tandem Life Services was birthed in an effort to offer individualized services to help all people live more independently. Our name references a tandem bike. It doesn't matter who is in front or in back, we are both working together to propel us forward.

We are committed to high quality, individualized services that encourage achievement and growth. We value quality over quantity of services. Our staff and partners are experts in their field and are highly trained. We offer person center services where each plan is specially tailored to the goals of each individual. We know you desire personal growth and to live your life more freely and we hope to partner with you to move you forward. Jump on the bike with us and see how far we can get!

Rachel Schmidt

Disability Services Specialist

Throughout her career, she has served countless people with disabilities (preschool- death) and their families across the west coast. She has experience in employment services, behavior analysis, clinical therapies and personal care giving. She has a deep love for sunshine and music (both listening to and making it!).  She is a Unified Basketball coach at Ballard High School, a YoungLife leader, and staff member with Jill's House, providing weekend respite for families. Her work in the Seattle area has encouraged her involvement in advocacy work and training other care providers. She desires to help people of all abilities live the life they want to. With almost 15 years of experience with people with disabilities of various ages, she is excited to offer services that fill gaps in existing services.

What People Say

“Promoting power and choice in the lives of individuals is one of the main driving forces behind Rachel’s work. She has a true understanding of the importance of choice in a person’s life, and incorporates a participant’s preferences in any way she can.”
